Gasket Shellac Compound is a dark brown, slow-drying (24-hour), hard-setting liquid sealant with an alcoholic odor used for coating, sealing, and repairing gaskets such as felt, paper, rubber, and metal gaskets. It provides light-duty sealing for threaded connections and has a shelf life of about one year, which can be extended by cooler storage. Shellac concentration is measured in “pound cut,” with commercial products commonly at 3-lb cut. Thin coats provide better adhesion and finish than thick layers. It may contain natural wax or be de-waxed for better topcoat adhesion. It should not be used in oxygen-rich systems, chlorine, or strong oxidizing materials.
• Forms a hard-setting seal for gasket repair and sealing applications
• Water-resistant formulation for reliable sealing performance
• Effective on felt, paper, rubber and composition-type gaskets
• Suitable for sealing metal gaskets and threaded connections in light-duty applications
• Operating temperature range: -65°F to 350°F (-54°C to 177°C)
• Designed for automotive, marine and G.I. pipe fitting applications
- Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from dust, grease, oil and old sealant residue.
- Stir well before use if required.
- Apply a thin and even coat on the gasket surface or threaded connection using a suitable applicator.
- Position and assemble the gasket or connection properly.
- Allow adequate drying time before use; complete hard setting may require up to 24 hours.
